Savvy Navvy software donations to RNLI volunteers proving popular

Working together to promote water safety, the RNLI and Savvy Navvy have partnered since July last year with more than 1,400 of their operational volunteers taking up the navigation app accounts for their own use.

“When we set up our collaboration with the RNLI, we wanted to empower those who protect others with our innovative navigation app. We’re pleased that our donation of software has proved so popular with RNLI’s incredible volunteers. We are proud to continue to support the RNLI in their vital mission to save lives at sea and promote water safety best we can. Better preparation leads to safer experiences on the water - and that’s exactly what Savvy Navvy was built for,” says David Cusworth, Head of Partnership and Innovation at Savvy Navvy.

In 2025, RNLI’s lifeboat crews launched more than 9,000 times, equating to 25 lifeboats launching to the rescue every day of the year. With more than 8,000 RNLI operational volunteers at 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland, they all rely on training, kit, rescue equipment, lifeboats and lifeboat stations to save lives at sea.

Next Savvy Navvy will support the charity through donations of a proportion of every Savvy Navvy subscription sold in selected RNLI shops. Beach locations with RNLI lifeguards and warning features of known incident hotspots will also be added to the app.

Steve Hulbert, Senior Commercial Partnerships Manager of the RNLI, says: “Without the selfless volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to save lives at sea, the RNLI could not function. The RNLI’s people are its most valuable asset, and we’re delighted that it is recognised by our trusted partner Savvy Navvy offering their brilliant navigation app. It’s so heartening when companies recognise the commitment of RNLI people and reward them for the courageous work they do.”

Savvy Navvy, often referred to as ‘Google maps for boats’, has had over three million downloads globally. The revolutionary Savvy Navvy app solves vital navigation issues for boaters, kayakers, paddleboarders and jet-skiers. Unlike any other navigation solution, Savvy Navvy provides smart routing – giving users the optimal route and dynamic ETAs based on real-time data: departure time, chart information, weather conditions, tide, waves, boat specifications and local regulations.
