Here is an explanation of the symbols, lines and areas shown on the Savvy Chart™. Many of these are standard nautical chart symbols as specified in S-57. Where the symbols on Savvy Charts are different they are explained here. Selecting a symbol on the Savvy Chart™ will bring up more detailed explanation such as the flashing sequence of illuminated buoys.
There are two lateral marker systems globally IALA-A is rest of the world and IALA-B is in Americas, Caribbean, Japan, Philippines & Korea. It is important to know which region you are in as the lateral buoy and preferred channel colours are reversed. IALA-A is Port : Red, Starboard : Green. IALA-B is Port : Green, Starboard : Red. The top marks are the same in both systems Port : Can, Starboard : Triangle.
