Our CEO and Founder Jelte Liebrand was invited by European Boating Industry (EBI) as a panel speaker at Boot Düsseldorf to discuss how AI and digital technologies are reshaping boating.
The panel discussion, held at the Blue Innovation Dock, explored how digital technologies are transforming the marine industry, making boating more accessible, sustainable and connected for the next generation of boaters.
"Boating has a high entry barrier and an even higher drop-out rate; intuitive, connected digital experiences are one of the most effective ways to reduce intimidation, increase enjoyment, and keep people boating for longer," Jelte said at the event. "I strongly believe that AI and digital technologies are essential to the future of boating - not to replace seamanship, but to support better decision-making and confidence on the water."
The panel discussion was facilitated by journalist Kristin Recke and featured representatives from industry leaders Navico Group, Boatpark AG, Up2Boat and Markenzeichen marketing agency. Throughout the week, the Blue Innovation Dock programme attracted crowds of industry leaders and innovators from across the globe.
"It was fantastic to be part of such a forward-thinking and solution focused group on stage. AI is undeniably transformative, not just for marine tech but the entire tech landscape," Jelte reflected.
"Our biggest success has been proving that modern, intuitive digital navigation can gain mass adoption in a traditionally analogue industry. Reaching over three million downloads, while also expanding into embedded onboard solutions through Savvy Integrated, shows that reducing complexity and intimidation genuinely helps more people stay engaged with boating. This year, we're planning deeper integration with onboard systems and sensors, as well as continued use of AI-driven routing and decision support to improve safety and ease of use."
The discussion comes shortly after we launched our new NMEA Connect feature, which seamlessly integrates NMEA-enabled boat instruments with the Savvy Navvy app, providing real-time data, enhanced AIS visibility and ultimately greater safety on the water. Through NMEA Connect, boaters can now access their boat's instruments and our smart routing technology from their pocket, eliminating the need to switch between multiple screens or devices.
