At the age of 66 Chris Ayres moved aboard his yacht with a plan to do a circumnavigation with a friend of his. As they got ready to sail his friend backed out which lead to Chris embarking on his six-year journey alone, and he says it was the adventure of a lifetime.

Our very own geospatial research scientist, Matthew Holwill, is currently focusing on sourcing, acquiring and modelling location and tidal current flow data from hydrographic observation stations to improve forecasting and navigation accuracy for savvy members.
This cool project will help to present tidal flows in even higher resolution. The screencast shows one of Matt's English Channel simulations, with the different colours showing water elevation over a period of 4 days.
